Unearthed pictures from the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, year 1913. Something strange is found in the ice.

Cecil Madigan’s (pictured left above) diary on the subject:

Due to Mawson’s team’s unfortunate journey, a small group was left in Antarctica for a whole year more than expected.

Excerpts from Sidney Jeffryes’ and Madigan’s diaries from the incident that led to the loss of the specimen in the winter of 1913. Jeffryes would never recover his sanity after the expedition.
