Luretail Viper

The Luretail Viper (Crotalus neonatus) is a species of large rainforest snake with a complex lure mechanism. It mimics the look and sound of a primate baby in distress to attract prey, striking when they get close. Tourists are advised not to listen to baby cries in the forest.

Sightings of this species are rare, but an audio recording of its luring sound was made recently. (Brazil, 2021)
